Jessie's Valentine's Day Gifts

Category: Exclusives, News, Press

I love Valentine's Day. When I was little, my mom had a big box decorated with hearts that we passed around the table each year. Inside were gifts for each of us, wrapped in tissue. The gifts were tokens, nothing extravagant. They were little expressions of love, my favorite kind of gift. Here's a list of some special things you might want to give and get this February 14th:

My Life in Paris by Julia Child: Every year Julia Child and her husband Paul sent out creative, silly valentines to all their friends. You can learn more about their joyful and loving relationship in this book about their time together living in France.

Red and White Straws: My boys love to drink from these special 'Valentine's Straws' on February 14th.

Individual Valentine Candy Boxes: Learn how to make these matchbox candy boxes at Inchmark, one of my most favorite mommy blogs. Blogger Brooke is a former editor at Martha Stewart and she is full of creative, visually pleasing projects for little ones.

Tom's Shoes: A pair of Tom's in Valentine's red. I love to see my husband, Brian, walking around in these comfy (and really, these are some of the most comfortable shoes ever made), cute, red shoes. Best of all, for every pair of shoes Tom's sells, they send a free pair to children in need.

Prime Meats: Treat your honey to a special meal, complete with homemade heart-shaped soft pretzels, at one of my favorite romantic restaurants, Prime Meats in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.

Wishing Wall: Write your wishes on colorful slips of paper, roll them up and place them in this recycled cardboard wall by Cardboard Design and watch your wishes come true.

Potted Plant from Tiny Park Flowers: Tiny Park Flowers specializes in potted plants and flowers for delivery in Brooklyn and Manhattan. These super chic potted plants are actually greener than cut flowers because they last longer and continue to grow.  I love this ornamental oregano plant with a subtle hint of pink for Valentine's Day. Order by Feb 7th for Valentine's delivery.

Black Jet Bakery Cookies: Made by one of my childhood best friends, Gillian Shaw, these chocolate chip and sea salt cookies are taking San Francisco by storm.

Kids Cooking Set
: This set of an apron, oven mitt and rolling pin comes just in time for your little one to help you make some heart shaped sugar cookies. Plus the color scheme couldn't be more perfect.

Lingerie from The Lake and Stars: Any girl would love something special from The Lake and Stars. This line is so beautiful, modern and elegant. Plus, the brand campaign on their website is amazing.

Interview with Benjamin Sturgill

Category: Inspiration, News, Press, Trends

We were thrilled to work with stylist Benjamin Sturgill on our Spring brand campaign.  Benjamin is a regular contributor for Self Service, i-D and 10Men magazines as well as a consultant with Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony.  Below he describes his vision for the shoot.

What inspired the look of the shoot?

We wanted to present the collection in an editorial manner, really show the attitude and overall feeling rather than straightforward looks.

In looking at the collection with Jessie, we were feeling an Australian outback vibe - country but very cool.  The fabrics and prints added an ethnic, tribal feel.  We brought in vintage jewelry, silver earrings and bracelets worn high on the arm to push the idea farther.

There's also an element of 90's street cred that comes through in the lace-up and hardware details.  We had the idea to use vintage corsets worn both over and under the clothing and incorporate swim pieces into the outfits - innerwear as outerwear.

How would you describe the collection and how does it fit into trends you are seeing for Spring?

I love the femininity of the collection, the pieces are tough but soft.  The ethnic, 90's and hardware trends will be big for Spring.  This collection incorporates these elements in an effortless way.  LR is classic cool without being overly trendy, confident without trying.

My favorite thing about Loeffler Randall - cool shoes that you can actually walk in, a statement shoe that doesn't overpower the outfit.

ADDRESS FILE: One of my favorite blogs is by a mom and graphic designer named Sharilyn. Jenny Feldman's Wedding Style

Category: Press

Glamour.com editor and longtime LR friend Jenny Feldman was sweet enough to send us these gorgeous photos taken on her wedding day featuring the metallic Carlie mignon twist sandal.  She answered some questions for us below about her own wedding style but you'll be able to read more of her great advice on the newly launched Glamour.com/weddings!

Congratulations on your wedding and thanks for the great pictures!  How did you choose your wedding attire?

I literally picked out my dress four weeks before the wedding. (I had another one, but changed my mind!) I wanted something simple. Originally I planned to wear a short dress, but when I came across the grosgrain gown from Lela Rose, I was smitten!

And the shoes?

I originally wanted a bright color (like red or pink) but then I realized that what would look right for my setting (a farm in Northern Vermont) would be something a bit more natural. I loved the Carlie in metallic because it was subtle, a bit Grecian but also didn’t feel glaringly out of place in the rural setting. Also it was vital that I wear flats because our ceremony was outdoors, and there was no way I was going to walk across a meadow into a garden wearing crazy heels. Even though I’m only 5’2” I felt totally glamorous and myself in the flats.

How did you and Jessie meet?

Jessie and I met shortly before she launched LR in a shoe making class (believe it or not!) I was taking the class for the purposes of a story I was writing for Elle and Jessie was obviously this insanely talented designer. I was like, “Wow! Who is this girl who knows SO MUCH about beautiful shoes!” I still remember the shoes she made in the class: a pair of gorgeous embossed or snakeskin-y looking gold platform heels. They were so stunning and simple. My shoes came out heinous. There’s a reason I’m a writer and Jessie is a designer!

You've been a long-time LR fan what draws you to the brand?

It sounds corny but I almost only wear LR shoes. For work and weekend, I can most often be found in their flat boots on the weekend or for commuting and a pair of their ankle boots or platform boots at the office, where I love to rock heels. It’s really the only brand I buy other than my Toms and sneakers. What draws me to the brand is a mix of comfort, style (everyone always compliments me on all my shoes) and sheer obsessiveness. Every season I’m amazed by how many LR shoes I actually want — they are always so fresh and gorgeous. And they truly are comfortable (you will never catch me in a painful stiletto).
