Behind the Scenes - Fall 2010

Category: Inspiration, News

We're excited to share this behind-the-scenes look at our Fall 2010 photo shoot. The Fall campaign marks our third consecutive season shooting with the amazingly talended Jamie Isaia, not to mention our second season of sharp styling by Benjamin Sturgill.  The photos of model Svetlana Lazareva (IMG) were shot on location at the Alpine Scout Camp in New Jersey.

Fall 2010 is Here

Category: News

Loeffler Randall's FW10 collection is chock-full of timeless classics with fresh twists. This season's styles channel concepts such as 'a shoe within a shoe' and 'a coat within a coat.' The Combo Coat, for one, is the perfect outer layer for any outfit: an over-sized version of the classic blazer rendered extra chic in leopard jacquard.  Meanwhile, draping on garments like the Peplum Coat and the Draped Pocket Pant gives the impression of layerig and makes for a more dynamic silhouette.  The Pernille platform slide (the next evolution of this season's ubiquitous clog) and the Donna pump get elegant updates by way of a front zip detail and metal toe tip, respectively.  And, this is just the beginning. Jessie's Solar Bag for Elle Magazine

Category: Charity, News, Press

This Spring, Jessie participated in a special charity project for Elle Magazine along with seven other designers, creating a one-of-a kind solar-powered hand bag.  Each bag features a flexible solar panel, an HBLED light, a rechargeable battery pack, and a USB port that can actually keep your cell phone charged.  The bags were produced in a collaboration with Portable Light Project, a non-profit initiative that provides solar textile kits to empower those who do not have access to electricity.  All eight bags are up for auction right now, with all of the proceeds going to the Portable Light Project.  Click here to bid on Jessie's bag and other great designs from Vena Cava, Diane von Furstenberg, and Maria Cornejo.

The Portable Light team works with non-governmental organizations to train women on integrating solar technology into local textile materials, producing a range of products the generate clean, sustainable enery and light, while supporting local economies.  To find out more about the project, please visit Elle.com or portablelight.org.

Inside Source interviews Jessie

Category: News, Press

Jen Smith of Inside Source recently posted a great interview with Jessie on her design process, motherhood, crafting, and her pics from the new collection.  Here's a taste of the Q and A, but you can read the full story here.

The Inside Source:  It is amazing how much you accomplish!  Can you give us a glimpse into your creative life?

Jessie Randall: With my life these days being as busy as it is, I am most inspired by the things I get to do that are creative and fun but have no pressure associated with them.  Things like designing t-shirts for favors for the boys' birthday or taking an embroidery class at Purl.  So much of my life now is about being a mom... I am inspired by things I never was before - like the color palette of one of the boys' children's books.

TIS: We read somewhere that your grandmother was a big influence.

JR: My grandmother was very chic.  She had a definite personal style - very simple, very wearable but it made an impression.  The other day I was just thinking about her in the spring wearing a bright cashmere sweater and her tiny feet in a pair of Keds - with her perfectly white hair.  She was glamorous to me because she did all the things my mom didn't want me to do like watch soap operas (she was in love with Patch from General Hospital), paint her toe nails, and gossip.  She was fun!

TIS: The start of your company began with a shoe.  When did your obsession begin?  Was there a pivotal moment?

JR: Yes.  My favorite time of the year was when my mom would take me to the shoe store in town to buy party shoes-the fancy shoes I would wear to all the birthday parties and holidays that year.  I remember the smell of that store, the leather smell, and I just loved it.  That was the beginning of my love of shoes, and they have always been my favorite thing!

Brian's Fathers Day Gift Guide

Category: News

Our boys' birthday is in June so usually I try to let this holiday slip under the radar, but I’d love a few tokens of a job well done and the significance of another year spent together.

Honestly, most guys are notoriously difficult to find gifts for because typically we keep everything we need for years on end. Its a much more gradual acquisition of trusted resources than a seasonal purge of temporary possessions. We love things we can keep around for a long time. In that spirit, here are a few things I’d keep around in celebration of fatherhood, at least for a year or three:

Olympus E-P2 Pen: I don't have a quality digital camera and my Google phone is a bit shaky on the camera lens.  This camera gets great reviews and looks like something my step-dad would have owned when he was in the service in Korea in the 50's.  Multiple lenses - good for taking pictures of my two daring dudes.

Black Hearts by Jim Frederick: Shameless plug for an old high school friend, but he just happens to be the Gen X Stephen F. Ambrose.  If you really want a view from the ground on Iraq, this is the book to read.  Buy it before Tom Hanks options it.

Woody Allen Box Set: There is a "Woody Allen Collection" with just Manhattan, Annie Hall and Hannah and Her Sisters.  Albeit a little incomplete, (The Purple Rose of Cairo, Manhattan Murder Mystery), it's just enough scattered, New York neurosis to make a Dad feel sane again.

Yidsun BlueBoom Bluetooth Speakers, New Era 59Fifty Fitted Baseball Cap, Six Pack of Budweiser Cans:  Nothing says "take a break, Dad" better than permission to sit outside and listen to a baseball game with a few cold beers.  Nothing fancy - a fitted cap (provided he's not a fan of some expansion team), some easy drinking Budweiser, and these awesome Bluetooth enabled speakers to fiddle with their gatget phones.  Great validation trick.  And cost-effective.

Baby Bat and Sky Spy Kites from Gayla: These are getting really, really hard to find (depressing) - but they're available online.  I think father/son, father/daughter kite flying sounds awesome.  Sign me up for one each and one for each boy.
