The Loeffler Randall Pre-fall 2011 collection has arrived! Read more about Jessie's inspiration for Pre-fall as well as her picks from the collection below.
What are the origins of this season's concepts?
The inspiration was African - from the prints (like the tribal and zebra prints) to the textures (snakes and haircalf) to the color palette (dark neutrals with pops of brights inspired by the colors of the African plains).
This collection is rich in textures - how did you choose the materials?
We wanted to have a beautiful range of colors and textures. Print is something I am really interested in exploring for footwear and we developed some interesting prints this season which we printed onto haircalf for the Bree wallaby bootie and Blaise moccasin. We also created new textures by using mesh and nubuck to create a cut-out zebra pattern for the Zaira bootie and then created an applique zebra design with patent leather and nubuck for the Anita flat.
Do you consider the clothing you want to wear when designing the shoes?
Pre-fall is a transitional season so it is always important to keep in mind the time period when designing a transitional season. The pieces need to work in the heat of summer. For example, our Noemi bootie looks cute with bare legs and a summery shorts jumper but also transitions well worn with jeans come the cooler Fall weather.
How does your personal style influence the designs in the collection?
I always start the season from the vantage point of what I would want to have in my own closet. I am very inspired by the girls who work in our office. People like Mimi (customer service) who is understated and chic and Serena (design) who is very directional and has a truly unique sense of style.
What are your favorite pieces?
I love the Bree wallaby bootie with all the different patterns printed on haircalf. I am loving polka dots right now so this shoe is one of my favorites. I also really like the Zaira mesh cut-out bootie. I own it in black and have been wearing it a lot. It is very sexy and fun.
