Happy Mother's Day

Category: LR Loves

We asked the LR team to share a few favorite things about mothers and Mother's Day - how their mom inspires them, how she's been a style influence, and what LR shoes suit her best. Enjoy all of the heartfelt mom love that resulted.

Jessie Randall, Creative Director:

"My mom is always there for sound advice. She is always giving me pep talks and is so supportive of everything I do. She believes in me even more than I believe in myself sometimes. And she is a wonderful grandmother, always making thoughtful cards and gifts for the boys, and taking the time to come up with special activities they might like. The boys love her so much and I am so blessed that she is such a big part of my kids' lives."

Willa Gross,  Ecommerce:

"I'll always remember the story my mom told me when I was packing for my first year of college, the same one she had gone to almost 30 years ago. She said she wore only one pair of boots and one pair of blue jeans the entire four years she was there. The boots were made of soft caramel colored leather, which naturally aged over time to a perfect vintage patina. I like to envision my mother in the early 70s frolicking around the Hudson Valley campus in them, writing poetry and playing guitar. The best lesson I learned from her was the value of quality over quantity, perfectly represented by that beloved pair of boots that she keeps to this day."

Serena Haller, Design:

"My mother has been my best friend and ally. I've never met anyone as generous or open minded and as true to themselves as she has always been. Having a role model who always believed that anything is possible is the greatest gift anyone could hope to have."

"My mom is the original thrift shopper. She's found some of my most treasured items looking where most people don't. She has a great eye and is one of the most polished women I know. She has always underlined the importance of taking care of one's self and making the small details count. Most importantly, though, she's always said attitude counts more than anything else. Her beauty has always been enhanced by her positivity."

Kristy Hurt, Human Resources:

"My mom never cleans out her closet so when I was a kid, I just shopped from her wardrobe. I was definitely a bit over accessorized for a 10-year-old, but I was always wearing tons of her costume jewelry and I had so much fun with it. My Grandmother, who is now 91, made the matching dresses in the photo above for herself, my mother and I."

"My kids love taking the subway to Coney Island to ride all of the rides and dip their toes in the water. They are so obsessed with carousels so we take turns between Jane in DUMBO, Chelsea Piers, Prospect Park Carousel and of course the one in Central Park. The kids beg to stop at FAO Schwartz for some candy after."

Ellen Moore, Public Relations:

"As a little girl, I quickly noticed my mother's natural sense of style, how easily and undeniably chic she could look in shabby garden clothes. Her look is smart and classic with a sophisticated touch of masculinity. She's usually in some version of a crisp, oversized button-down and trousers, with one arm draped in chunky gold bangles and rounded tortoise specs propped on the tip of her nose. She wears the clothes, they never wear her. The older she gets, the more beautiful I find her and her unpretentious yet impossibly chic signature style."

"I gave my mom the Serafinas for Mother's Day. At nearly six feet tall, my mother lives in flats. With two grandchildren to chase after, she has to! I know my mom well - she'd much prefer these flowers over real ones."

Lisa Storch, Ecommerce:

"My mom is a one-of-a-kind lady and inspires me to be myself and proud of it. She also passed down her skills on the dance floor to all of my siblings. Almost all family gatherings end with some form of a dance party - always appropriate to bust a move."

"Every Mother's Day we would head to the Farmer's Market and pick out hanging flower baskets for my grandma's porch. The only requirement was that they be colorful, blooming, and chosen with lots of love."

Stephanie Draves, Ecommerce:

"I am so proud of my mom, her unconditional support, love and encouragement to her family and her students is an inspiration to me. She instilled in me the belief that I can and should do anything I set my mind to do and never settle for anything less."

Lissa Warshaw, Wholesale:

"My mother inspires me to be a kind and loving individual who should always face her fears. She is always putting a smile on my face and would do anything to help me. Her day revolves around making me happy and I can't thank her enough for it."

"For Mother's Day, I wanted to buy my mom a pair of the black Tamsin heels. She has always told me that you can never go wrong with a great pair of black heels. Plus, she only deserves the best!"

Erik Melvin, Operations:

"I actually just sent my mom the Roanne in pale gold. She's not a heels-kind-of-gal, but needed something special for my brother's wedding next month. The Roanne is perfect for her - not too high, perfect for summer formal and simple enough to help her feel comfortable. But, in her words, 'they're too pretty to wear yet.'"

"My mom's best advice: 'Don't grow up too fast. And never cook on a Friday night.'''
